Cheesy Grits

Grits are one of the most delicious and simple foods you can make. Another bonus if you are a college student like me: they're cheap AND filling. While for the most part I stick to my mom's way of making them with cheese and garlic, I also like to get a little crazy with them and add some heavy cream at the end.

Don't judge me.

You will need: quick cooking grits, salt, pepper, garlic powder, heavy cream, and cheese (I used Velveeta and a little smoked mozzarella I had left over but any cheese works).

First put a small pot of water on the stove and bring to a boil.

Optional step: While the water is coming to a boil, fry up some bacon. I'm telling you, bacon+grits=GOOD.

Once the water has come to a boil, add in some salt.

Pour in the grits...

And stir well.

Cover the pot and allow the grits to cook for about 5 minutes.

This would be a good time to snack on that bacon we talked about earlier...

You know your grits are done when they are nice and thick like this. Turn off the heat.

Now sprinkle in some garlic powder...

And pepper...

And (most importantly) the cheeses.
 Stir around until well combined

And pour in some heavy cream.

Mmmm.... So cheesy....
Enjoy with bacon on the side!
